Radishes ready for harvest.

Scientific Name: Raphanus sativus

Eatable portion: Most commonly – Root, but leaves can be eaten as well.

Preferred Temperatures (°F): For best results, 50 – 65.

Preferred pH: 5.2 – 6.8 depending on soil

Plant spacing: For garden radishes, sow seeds directly in furrows ½ inch deep 6 inches apart. The seeds should be about 1 inch apart from each other.

Watering is essential because drought may cause bolting or the radish to be woody. Garden radishes are harvested 3 – 5 weeks after planting. They are harvested when they are 1 inch in diameter at the largest part. Radishes can be stored for 3 – 4 weeks if the tops are removed.
